“Happy are they whom you choose and draw to your courts to dwell there! they will be satisfied by the beauty of your house, by the holiness of your temple.” (Psalm 65:4)
The Altar Guild is the “behind the scenes” worship ministry, prepare the altar for Holy Communion and cleaning the vessels and linens after services. To work closely with the sacred vessels is an opportunity to grow in prayer, service, and awareness of the presence of God.
“O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness; let the whole earth stand in awe of him.” (Psalm 96:9)
Altar servers assist the priest in the liturgy by carrying the processional cross, leading the psalm, helping to prepare for Holy Communion, and administering the chalice.
“Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of the prophecy.” (Revelation 1:3a)
As the name suggests, readers read the first and second Scripture lessons at Holy Communion. The goal is to let the light the Scripture shine through our reading. It is not a performance; all that is required is clarity, simplicity, and a love of sharing the Word.
“For one day in your courts is better than a thousand in my own room, and to stand at the threshold of the house of my God than to dwell in the tents of the wicked.” (Psalm 84:9)
Ushers are the first friendly face people say when they come to Church of the Savior. If you like people and can hand out bulletins, answer visitors’ questions, pass the plate, and guide people to the altar rail at Communion, serving as an usher might just be for you.
“Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it.” (Hebrews 13:2)
Our fellowship is enhanced when we get to share delicious treats. If you feel called to bring something to share, check the sign-up sheet on the bulletin board in the narthex.
